Dorlen Hier

Dorlen G. Hier, 87, Sterling, died December 8, 2011. Born September 21, 1924 at Crete. Served in the United States Army during World War II during the occupation in Japan. Worked for Weilage Implement, Crete. Co-owner of Hier’s Tavern, Crete. Moved to rural Sterling in 1957 where he and his wife farmed. Member St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Douglas; Knights of Columbus; instrumental in building of St. Martin’s. Served as Johnson County Commissioner. Member George Raymond Jelley Post #8221 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Harm Sangen Post # 140 of the American Legion in Sterling, commander; state American Legion commander.

Family members include four daughters, Kathy Jolly and husband Carroll, Papillion; Sue Weyers and special friend Ben House, Des Moines, Iowa; Marti Thompson and husband Dan, and Elizabeth Rowe and husband Dennis, all of Lincoln; six sons, Dorlen "Skeet" Hier and wife Jill, Lincoln; Tim Hier and wife Lonnie, Littleton, Colorado; John Hier and wife Melissa, Rifle, Colorado; Daniel Hier and wife Sara, Cortland; Mark Hier and wife Catherine, Princeton; Paul Hier and friend Siena, Show Low, Arizona; 26 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one brother, Everett (Ebb) Hier and wife Dorothy, Crete; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife, Frances; three brothers, Ted, Bob, Julian, and infant brother, Glade; one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Hier.

A mass of Christian Burial was held December 12, 2011 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Douglas. Burial was in the Sterling Cemetery, Sterling. Military graveside honors were conducted by Harm Sangen Post #140, American Legion, Sterling. Memorials to family’s choice.
