Gerald Hegarty

Gerald Michael Hegarty, 86, Eagle, died January 4, 2012. Born in Upland, April 18, 1925, to John and Margareet (Cahill) Hegarty. Grew up on farm near Heartwell, graduated Heartwell High School in 1941. Gerald farmed for many years and worked as bio-medical equipment technician for Veterans Administration Hospital in Lincoln before retiring. Gerald served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a founding member and long-time presidenet of AFGE Local #2219 at Veterans Administration Hospital. Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Family members include: wife, Camilla, Eagle; sons, Joah and Michael Hegarty, Eagle; daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and Gary Blankenship, Kearney; Colleen Anderson, Lincoln; Barbara Hegarty, South Bend; Theresa Hegarty, Lincoln; Carolyn Hegarty, Eagle, Laura and John Douglas, Lincoln; Bonnie Suarez, Lincoln; brother, Tom Hegarty, Kearney; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, many friends. Preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial was held January 10, 2012, at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home with burial at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Heartwell. Memorials to National Parkinson Foundation. Condolences may be sent online at wadlowrozanek.com.
