Suspected arson at Cottontail Lake

A suspected arson fire was reported at Cottontail Lake at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 26. According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s office, a visitor to the lake told deputies he pulled into the north parking lot just off of SW 29th Street and noticed smoke and flames coming from the posts. Upon arrival, members of the Southwest Rural Fire and Rescue reported two of the wooden posts that separate the parking area from the lake area were on fire. The deputy’s report stated, "It appeared some sort of accelerant was poured on the post to aid them in burning." The case remains under investigation.
