Girl injured in accident near Denton

By Gerry Baksys

A Denton girl was injured in a one-vehicle auto accident that occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, January 26.

According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s office, Hannah Smith, 15, of Denton, was driving her 2010 Ford sedan north on SW 112th. Smith told deputies she had just used her mailbox near the west ditch, and leaned over in her vehicle to screw the cap on a pop bottle and adjust some papers in the passenger compartment when she noticed the car veering off of the road. Smith told deputies she then pressed what she thought was the brake, but the vehicle continued on and struck a utility pole.

Smith told deputies she was experiencing pain in her face and wrist from the accident, but was not reportedly taken to a hospital at the time. Smith was cited for alleged careless driving. Damage to her car was estimated at $1,500. Damage to the pole was estimated at $5.
