Valenta in critical condition

By Mike Niedbalski

At 10:30 p.m. on January 30, Gage County Sheriffs were dispatched to a one vehicle injury accident on Highway 77, between west Cherry Road and west Chestnut Road, about two miles north of Pickrell.

Jennifer Valenta, 27, of Wilber, was traveling southbound on Highway 77 when her 2007 GMC Envoy left the roadway. She entered the ditch on the west side of the road and hit an embankment sending her vehicle airborne for 104 feet. The vehicle landed in the west ditch and continued traveling, reentering the roadway and crossing the southbound lanes before coming to rest on the center median.

Gage County Sheriffs, Pickrell Fire and Rescue, Beatrice Fire and Rescue and StarCare V responded to the scene.

According to the Sheriff’s report, the airbags did not deploy, seatbelts were not in use and alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Valenta was transported to BryanLGH West with life threatening injuries; she remained in critical condition as of Tuesday morning.
