Property stolen to purchase pot

By Gerry Baksys

A Denton man was arrested for allegedly stealing jewelry, tools and assorted other items to buy gas, clothing and marijuana.

On January 13, Jeffrey Downing, 54, of Denton, reported that several tools from his barn were missing. Downing, his wife Shirley and daughter Lori Zuniga, also reported several items of jewelry were missing.

During the course of the investigation, deputies reported that Shirley’s son, William Grone, 18, of Denton, was allegedly responsible and had pawned the items at various locations around Lincoln. While being interviewed by deputies, Grone allegedly admitted to stealing the items to pay for gas, clothes and marijuana. Grone was arrested for alleged felony theft. Some of the items were recovered, but total loss is estimated at $4,485.
