The Genealogy Kitchen Sink

The Genealogy Kitchen Sink is fast approaching. That's what the North Platte (NE) Genealogical Society members are calling the March meeting. It's like a mini-fair where members can bring displays of projects, family treasures, ideas, books, photographs, etc. We are opening it up to the public in hopes that it will draw attention and we'll gain new members. There is another point in doing this fair. Members will get to know each other better. They will gain an understanding of personal research being done. Some members are reluctant to participate in the presentation of monthly programs. They will be participating in this program, but having a lot of fun and less pressure by showing off their own ancestry.

My sister-in-law is coming from out of town to display her photography. She cleans up old photographs, creates decorative photographs that can be framed and does photographic manipulation. My nine year old granddaughter will be present, with her mother, to display her Family History Album which was presented to her by the North Platte Genealogical Society members in December of last year. She has photographs of several generations along with memoirs. One of her personal memory sheets is about holding her grandfather's hand when he passed away. What a great remembrance that she can share with her children and grandchildren. She also has a Pet-A-Gree page complete with names and photographs. Since she lives in the country I have had to remind her we are running out of room on the page!

The meeting will be held on Wednesday night, March 19th in the meeting room at the North Platte Public Library. If it proves successful, we'll need more space to have it next year. We hope it is successful and turns into an annual event.
