Conferences, Lectures and Travels

Spring is here, summer is on the way. Genealogists
start thinking about learning and researching. Now is
the time to plan a summer of researching at
libraries, courthouses and cemeteries. Make to-do
lists, plan the trip with online maps, such as at
Google Maps or MapBlast. Be sure to contact
courthouses and libraries ahead of time to
determine their hours, holiday closings and the
extent of their records. This can easily be done
now by email or a phone call.
Are conferences on your agenda? The National Genealogical Society Conference will be held on 14-17 May 2008 in Kansas City, Missouri. The program, Show me the Nation's Records, is extensive and informative. Toss in several hours of browsing the vending area, and you'll come home a well-informed genealogist.
The Federation of Genealogical Societies Conference will be held in Philadelphia 3-6 September 2008 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. They are presenting "Footprints of Family History." For any of these you can check the program, seek more information and also register online by clicking on the links I have provided.
Many state and local conferences will be held this summer. The Ohio Chapter of the Palatines to America Germany Genealogy Society will sponsor a National Conference in Columbus, OH on 19-21 June. Many specialists in the field will be speaking. On 15-16 August the Indiana Historical Society will be holding their annual Family History and Genealogy Conference at the Marriott East in Indianapolis. On 17 August the 28th International Conference on Jewish Genealogy will be held in Chicago. This is billed as the premier event for Jewish Genealogists. Up to the time the weather chills and the leaves turn, there's more. For example the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society will be holding their Fall 2008 seminar on 11 October 2008 at the Holiday Inn Express in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Whether it's family reunions, research in libraries, courthouses, cemeteries, visiting relatives or attending conferences, seminars or lectures, fill you summer with fun .... genealogy fun!
