Cultural Events
The NFVIC provides opportunities for children with visual impairments and their families to attend cultural events to broaden the children's scope of learning and creativity. These arranged events offer a more accessible format of the information being presented. Previous cultural events sponsored by the NFVIC
have included:
- Omaha Children’s Museum DinO!saurs: A Pre historic Expedition
- Valas Pumpkin Patch sponsored by the Omaha Council of the Blind
- Dance movement workshop sponsored with the Very Special Arts
- Creighton baseball game with beeping balls
- Beeping Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by Boys Town National Research Hospital
- Clay and Pottery Modeling
- Bowling with talking calculators/braille score cards
- Rodeo
- Paddle Boating
- Lunch with a real cowboy
- Ski trips to South Dakota
- Braille Trail with audio cassette players describing the scenery at the Fontenelle Forest
- Hands-on experience with dinosaur exhibit at the Children's Museum
- Tour of the Egyptian exhibit with braille notes at the Joslyn Art Museum
- Attended plays and visited with the cast members at the Jewish Community Center Theater & Omaha Play House
- Hands-on experience with costumes for an Opera rehearsal at the Orpheum Theater
- Attended a musical at the Dundee Dinner Theater
- Petting animals at a trip to the Zoo
