Comic Art! - Chris Ware

Omaha  native Chris Ware returned to Nebraska in February 2007 for a talk and an exhibition at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery on the campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. For the details, here's the Ware-letterd text  from the postcard announcing the event:

I'm pleased to say that the promised mugging of the artist did not occur. Rather, he was feted the night before his appearance at the home of local businessman (and comics fan) Duncan and his art-collecting family.

The exhibition produced a variety of lavishly-illustrated publications that were given away to attendees, including a limited-edition catalog, oversized illustrated postcard, and trifold brochure with a poster on one side and a 4.000-word comic-art essay on the reverse.

Inside, visitors to the lecture view the gallery's display of works by an amazing array of renowned artists, including Winsor McKay, George Herriman, Walt Kelly, Frank King, Moebius. R. Crumb, Dan Clowes, Charles Burns, Alex Ross and one-time Lincolnite S. Clay Wilson.
Another gallery room upstairs is hung all around with art by Chris Ware, emphasizing "Rusty Brown" pieces largely set in the Omaha area.

The room is also decorated with curios like these Ware-illustrated lunchboxes and other memorabilia.

A few minutes before the conversation begins, the auditorium fills with enthusiastic fans.
Sheldon curator Daniel Siedell escorts Ware through the crowd.
