The Firesign Theatre (David Ossman, Phil Austin, Phil Proctor and Peter Bergman) joined together in 1966 and made an incredible string of deeply-layered, intelligent and riotously funny comedy recordings, beginning with 1968's Waiting for the Electrician or Someone Like Him. Classics like How Can You Be In Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All (featuring Nick Danger), Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers, and I Think We're All Bozos on This Bus soon followed. Collectively and individually they've made over two dozen records. Their recent albums have included 1998's reunion salute to the millenium, Give Me Immortality or Give Me Death, the follow-up Boom Dot Bust, and the superb The Bride of Firesign. Two of the three were nominated for Grammy awards as Best Comedy Album of the Year, and much their canon is now back in print and widely available.
The early Firesign fanzine, Chromium Switch, was published locally by my friend Tom Gedwillo. The logo above, and the other drawings in this section, were drawn for that publication.
