The Thursday before Christmas, Susan, Jake, and Mom visited me at work. Santa paid a visit to the Dept. of Roads, so Jake wanted to stop by and drop off his wish list.

Last time she was in town, Mom didn’t get many pictures with Jake. She made sure to snap quite a few with him this time. Here we paused for a picture just after visiting Santa.

Susan was busy talking to someone she ran into that knew someone who was friends with someone who went to school with one of her brothers or something. We never go anywhere that doesn’t happen. So I decided to snap a couple more shots of Mom and Jake.

On Christmas Eve, Jake, Susan, David and I ate dinner at our house before heading out to the Christmas service at the College View SDA church. After church we returned home to open up a few gifts. Here Jake was really happy about just being with his Mom. So much for the gifts.

As a matter of fact, I think Susan was really happy about just being with Jake.
At first, Jake slept while Susan, Mom, and I sat around opening gifts and listening to  the music from A Charlie Brown Christmas. When Jake woke up, Susan just had to have him play with some of his presents. He wasn’t really excited about anything in particular, but then again, I think all of those presents were more for Susan and I than for Jake...

After a great meal at Sharon and Marlyn’s everyone sat down around the tree opening gifts. Here Sharon plays the role of Santa Helper, handing out the presents faster  than we could actually open them.

The day included friends as well as family. Close friends of Sharon, Matt and Jolene came to dinner with Jolene’s daughter Lauren and Jolene’s friend Dean. I actually took pictures of them too, but for some reason they turned out blurry. I’ll learn to work that stupid digital camera yet!

David...happy because Santa brought so many nice presents.

Mom, Ruth, and I opening gifts and feeding Jake. Jake got even more presents from Santa. Mom gave him a really cool child’s first Bible, and Marlyn, Sharon, and my Dad gave him something that will help him along in later life...college money, which will soon be going into a Certificate of Deposit.

A white Christmas in Nebraska. You’d think we’d be used to this, but there are high school seniors in Lincoln who’ve never seen one. 1983 was the last year Lincoln had snow on the ground on Christmas Day. If you look really closely you can see Matt and Terry (Marlyn’s son) cruising on snow mobiles out in Marlyn’s pasture.

Ruth joined us for our Christmas meal. She’s from Trinidad, one of 11 brothers and sisters. It was fun to have her join us and talk about her family. Terry offered her a  ride on his snow mobile and she jumped at the chance say “I probably won’t ever get the chance to do that again.” Later she was overheard complaining that Matt got a longer ride than she. I think she should’ve gone out for a second run.

Jeff playing with Jake. Believe it or not, Jake wasn’t being the “model” child. He was kind of irritated about something, so Jeff entertained him in the bouncy seat for a while. He asked Susan if he should pull the top of that thing all the way to the ground and see how far Jake could fly. She wasn’t amused.
If you look closely, you can see my totally awesome golf bag,  courtesy of Jeff and Lanette.

Right before Mom took off, we had to squeeze in a few more pictures of her and Jake.

This may look just like the last picture, but it’s not

I think she’s going to miss him.
